Spiral Paths of Cornwall Pilgrimage
A deep walk along the ancient spiral paths of Cornwall to holy wells, stone circles and standing stones
Weaving together the pilgrimage journey with the sounding of the Earth
with Sarah Hoskin Clymer, Spiral Path Pilgrimage Guide
& Wendalyn Bartley, Sonic Oracle
June 19th - 29th, 2014
I invite you to join us on a rich and deep 10 day journey of walking in spirals in the ancient lands and moors of Cornwall, England's most remote county in the southwest peninsula.
As we walk, we will engage with the Earth through the Dragon Lines, also known as Earth energy ley lines, the sacred sites and stones, water ways, wells and trees. We will activate our bodies, our hearts and our voices to tune into the creative impulse within us and receive guidance for our life journey. We will walk deeply to listen to the Earth, to hear Her ancient song, and connect with Her wisdom. We will walk deeply to listen to ourselves, to love all of ourselves, and to connect with the Sacred Feminine Warrior within each of us. We will walk deeply to reawaken our innate voices, receive its wisdom, and come home to ourselves. We will walk the Way of the Sacred Feminine Warrior to embrace and embody, and resound with her strength, confidence, connection and purpose. To be a warrior is to learn to be genuine I will be joined by Wendalyn Bartley, Sonic Oracle. Wendalyn will facilitate and lead us into the world of sound and voice at these ancient and sacred sites. We first met 6 years ago through a mutual dear friend, and it turns out that we also share a connection with Sue Kenney, with whom I walked my first Camino in 2009.
Very recently, Wendalyn and I reconnected, as if by magic, so that we could weave together "the pilgrimage journey with the sounding of the earth." Why Cornwall?
The beautiful Atlantic peninsula of Cornwall is the home to many ancient, mystical and historical sites.
Its remoteness contributes to its mystery and seeming out of timeness with the rest of England. It is an ancient Celtic land, whose fierce independence is still present today. Almost extinct, Kernewek - the native Celtic language of Cornwall, is making a come back and more and more people are learning how to speak their native tongue. On a more personal note, it is the land of my ancestors on my father's side. It is where I had my first mystical, spiritual experience over 31 years ago. Since then, I have been yearning to return, to connect, to walk, to deepen and even to live there. I visited Cornwall in 2012 with my husband, father and step-mother as part of my dad's research for his soon-to-be published, historical fiction novel set in 18th century Cornwall, The Miner and the Viscount. Last summer, I walked some of Cornwall's ancient paths, including the Saints Way in mid-Cornwall, which I walked with my Cornish cousin, Karen. I then walked solo on St Michael's Way, aka the "Cornish Camino" near Penzance, and the first 80 miles of the Dragon Line, an ancient serpentine path that follows the St Michael alignment that runs across England from the southwest point of Cornwall through Glastonbury and Avebury, all the way to the east coast of England. I unexpectedly completed my solo pilgrimage at Restormel Castle, near Lostwithiel, and when I arrived here, I knew that I had walked "home", experiencing a profound wholeness within myself. Weaving together the pilgrimage journey
with the sounding of the Earth. A Quote from Wendalyn: Wendalyn's Resonance with this Pilgrimage:
We are all born with a natural inclination to make sound and connect with the world around us through our voice. When we tune in to the unique vocal story held in our body, we discover an incredible range of sounds that can open us to a relationship to our deeper wisdom and offer guidance for our daily lives. Through the voice, we can also open a doorway into a relationship of communion and connection with the memories and stories that live within the land, that are present in the waters, trees and stones, and in the ancient sacred ritual places. As we walk, we will listen for the song of the earth, as she finds her way up through the cracks to sing through us, as in the days of the ancient oracle priestesses. We will offer back our sounds to the ancient lands of Cornwall as an act of love and nurture to the Earth Mother, the spirit of Gaia, who sustains us all.

Itinerary
Day 1. Thursday, June 19th. Arrive in Penzance, Cornwall
We travel to Penzance, Cornwall, the coastal town at the end of the train line in the very west of Cornwall. We will all meet and gather at our Bed & Breakfast located in central Penzance, and enjoy a quiet, casual dinner and evening together as we settle in and relax after our travels. We will come together in a circle to meet and connect with each other, go over our itinerary for the next 9 days, create and speak our intentions for this sacred pilgrimage. This will be an early and easy evening as many will have traveled long hours to be here. We will want to rest and be ready for our first day of walking on Friday.
We will enjoy our evening after our first walk with a kick-off celebration dinner at Mackerel Cafe, a lovely cafe I discovered last summer. I love this place, the ambiance, the delicious food and the mural on the wall. I am so excited to share this cafe with you!
Day 3. Saturday, June 21st. Summer Solstice at 10:51am
We will celebrate this very special day with a delightful walk to Madron Well, a short walk from our hotel.
At the Well, we will mark the turning point of the solstice with a sounding to the summer solstice 2014
energies and sound into our own blossoming abundance.
We will then move to our home, Rosemerryn in Lamorna, west of Penzance, where we will stay for the next 4 nights, and have seven acres of magical woodland all around us, including a two thousand year old man made cave or temple, the Boleigh Fogou.

We will relax into our new home and have a special Solstice Ceremony at the Boleigh Fogou, considered to be one of the best remaining monuments of its kind in Cornwall. Found to be part of an iron-age site, this man made underground cave has survived pretty well intact for 2000 years. The word ‘fogou’ is derived from the Cornish word for cave – fogo - and indeed these fantastic constructions do not occur anywhere else in England. It is thought that birth and death rituals might have been carried out in the fogou, that it might have been used for initiation and spiritual ceremonies.
At the Boleigh Fogou, we will attune with the resonances of the cave, letting the reverberations call forth our body wisdom. In these depths, we open to receive insight from the vibrations we have set in motion within these chambers, and remember the ancestral ceremonies that once took place.

Day 4. Sunday, June 22nd Walk from Carn Les Boels to Alsia Well
We will be taken to the rugged coast near Land's End to begin our walk at Carn Les Boels, the magnificent outcrop of rocks just south of the village of Polgigga. Paul Broadhurst and Hamish Miller, authors of The Sun and the Serpent, doused this spot to be where the powerful Dragon Way currents enters into England. We will walk a gentle 6 miles to Alsia Well, the only well in western Cornwall to not be discovered by the Christian Church. As a result, it is considered to be the only remaining "goddess" well as it is not named for a Christian saint.
This is a very special and sweet spot, lovingly cared for by Trevor Rogers, who owns the land and nearby old mill house.
With our sounds we will connect with the Dragon Way earth energies, and align ourselves to the earth currents that begin here and travel east through England. At the Alsia Well, we will open up and let the primal sound of the ancient Goddess move through us, as she invites us into her primordial waters.

Day 5. Monday, June 23rd Stone Circles and Standing Stones
We will walk to the ancient stone circle of Boscowen-un Stone Circle just north of St Buryan.
Bowcowen-un is one of my most favorite sacred sites in western Cornwall. Last June, it welcomed me in with an open heart, and I allowed myself to connect deeply with the site and also with my core.
Here, we will get to experience the full magic, mystery and wonder of an ancient stone circle, listening to the wisdom of the Earth, bring in our sacred sounds, and co-create a Goddess ceremony within the circular stones.
We will then continue on to the well at Creed, before we head south to the Blind Piper Standing Stone and the Nine Maidens Stone Circle.
With our bodies and voices, we will dance and sound our way within the circular pattern of the stone circles, exploring their unique geometric characteristics. As we rest our bodies against the standing stones, we open to receive their wisdom and express our gratitude for their ageless presence amongst us.
It will be a full day, and yet we will get to walk full circle, walking back to our home at Rosemerryn.

Day 6. Tuesday, June 24th. Walk to Men-an-Tol, Chun Quoit and Lanyon Quoit
We will walk on the often bleak downs of Penwith to experience the neolithic chambered tomb stones of Chun Quoit and Lanyon Quoit, as well as Men-an-Tol, another site of standing stones, one of which is round with a hole in it. Once again we will have an opportunity to dance and sing with the stone alignments of these sites.
"The hole is seen as the threshold of life and death or the birth canal from which all life emerges. To this day women crawl through it in the hope of becoming pregnant. Fertility and sexuality are the essence of this holed stone. The hole is also recognized as the woman's hole of wisdom, the gateway to the Earth goddess." Sally Griffyn, Sacred Journey

We will celebrate our last evening in Penwith with an outing to the Minack Theater, Cornwall's world famous open-air theatre. We will see the performance of THE CASE OF THE FRIGHTENED LADY, Miracle Theatre’s original adaptation of Edgar Wallace’s best seller, that offers a great mix of comic delights and instantly invented characters who will have you in fits of laughter as they cook up the storyline and play out the dramatic conclusion.
Attending a play at this breathtaking outdoor theater is an experience unto itself. It almost doesn't matter what is being performed!
Built into the rocky cove on the stunning coast south of Porthcurno Bay, this theater is the manifestation of one woman's vision. From 1931 until she died in 1983 the Minack Theatre was planned, built and financed by one determined woman, Rowena Cade.

Day 7. Wednesday, June 25th Travel to Lostwithiel
After another delicious breakfast, we will leave Penwith and head east to mid-Cornwall to walk and experience the sacred sites of Bodmin Moor, often referred to as the "heart of Cornwall."
We will travel via King Harry Ferry, where we will take the ferry across the River Fal, and then onto Tregony Bridge. Here we will offer our healing songs to clear the gruesome killing that took place here in 1577. Last summer, I knew that I was not to walk this section of the Dragon Way by myself, and that I was to return with a group of powerful women to offer our healing energies and voices to release and heal the trauma from this bridge.
Sound is a powerful way to clear trauma and negative emotions. We will sound to release these
ancestral traumas at Tregony Bridge, along with anything that may surface within our own karmic fields. We will then lie down and rest, to restore ourselves at the feet of the Sleeping Goddess in the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

Thursday, June 26th Walk from Respryn Bridge to Restormel
We will walk along the River Fowey to Restormel Castle, a great 13th-century circular stone keep that sits up above the river and overlooks the valley. This particular spot is where I had my first "spiritual" experience in 1982, and experienced a deep yearning to "come home" ever since then. Last summer, I culminated my solo pilgrimage on the Dragon Way at Restormel and marked my "coming home" with a private ritual ceremony in the center of the round, in celebration with the ancient trees and woods.
This summer, we will walk into this man-made stone circle to acknowledge the power of place to guide us and call us home to ourselves, us and call us home to ourselves. Once again, we open up to the deep resonances and echoes of an enclosed human-made place, allowing its vibrations to awaken our cellular memories and transmit its guidance and insights.

Day 9. Friday, June 27th St Neot, Golitha Falls, St Cleer and Trethoy Quoit
We will walk along the edge of Bulland Downs from the small town of St Neot to the beautiful Golitha Falls, and then onto St Cleer, King Donert's Stone and Trethevy Quoit. This will be a lovely walk along footpaths and tracks to reach St Cleer, beside the Holy Well. We will also follow some small lanes and a bridleway lead to Trethevy Quoit, believed to be a massive tomb of a prehistoric chieftan.
With our voices, we call in the nature spirits of the waters and wells, and weave in memories of the mythic stories of the fairies and mermaids associated with the magical traditions of “The Well”.

Day 10. Saturday, June 28th Bodmin Moor, the "Heart of Cornwall"
We will experience the misty, mysterious landscape of Bodmin Moor, often considered the "Heart of Cornwall." We will walk from the village of Minions to three stone circles called the "Hurlers", which are now often populated with the Bodmin Moor cattle and wild horses.
From here we will walk to Cheesewring, a distinctive and dramatic natural formation of stones. The name derives from the resemblance of the piled slabs to a "cheesewring", a press-like device that was once used to make cheese.
As we walk along within the earth mysteries of the Bodmin Moor, we will open our ears to the song of the earth beneath our feet, uncovering what the spirit of Gaia has to teach us. At the stones of Cheesewring, we will offer our sounds into the cracks and openings of the bottom of this amazing rock mound.
We will then walk on Bodmin Moor to St Torney Well near North Hill to complete our walking this day.
We will enjoy a delicious completion dinner at the Trewithen Restaurant in Lostwithiel before heading back to our B&B for a gentle evening as we prepare for our departure the next day.

Day 11. Sunday, June 29th Travel Day
After our final breakfast together as a circle, we will depart and begin our journeys to our next destinations. For many, it will be to travel to London to fly home the next day. For others, it may be heading home in another area of England. For some, it may be to continue on with your explorations.
For all of us, it will be a journey imbued with the experiences, embodiments, awakenings and deepenings from our pilgrimage together. With each step we take, we will live into the adage, "When the pilgrimage ends, the journey begins."
"We are made from Mother Earth. It is no longer good enough to cry peace, we must act peace, live peace, and live in peace."
We are the Sacred Feminine Warriors, the pilgrims walking in peace, for peace, as peace.
Solvitur Ambulando. It truly is solved by walking!

Your Guides/Facilitators
Sarah Hoskin Clymer, intuitive coach, pilgrim guide and former radio show host, first discovered the joys of pilgrimage in 2009, when she walked the last 170 kilometers of the ancient path of the Camino into Santiago, Spain. Starting in Santiago and walking east, she then returned to walk "the other way" along the Camino in 2010 and again in 2012 when she walked the Chemin (the French Camino) through the foothills of the Pyrenees to Toulouse. Last summer, she walked solo along ancient earth energy lines in southern England.
Through her walks along sacred paths, Sarah has connected with her deepest desires, as well as the deep strength of her feminine soul. Now, she offers sacred walks and pilgrimages as "paths of initiation", as well as workshops and programs to support you to embrace your desires and manifest your dreams, and to guide you on your Sacred Feminine Warrior path. Wendalyn Bartley is a Toronto-based composer, sound energy
practitioner and oracle singer who aligns her artistic practice with the ancient tradition of the sirens, sibyls and oracles. Through 'oracle singing' she divines and invokes the sonic wisdom of the sacred feminine as embodied in nature and various goddess traditions. Her compositions are rooted in the contemporary chamber and electroacoustic music traditions, and she has worked extensively out of the extended vocal practice as pioneered by Roy Hart. She is a certified Soul Voice practitioner, a voice-based healing modality developed by Karina Schelde. Other influences include listening and soundscape studies, mythic story traditions, eco-feminist thought, and various earth-based spiritual practices. Wendalyn's passion and vision is to help guide people in awakening their own voice, and to cultivate a restoration of our relationship to the natural world through sound and voice. Her recent album "Sound Dreaming: Oracle Songs from Ancient Ritual Spaces" is created from vocalizations made at megalithic temple and cave in Malta and Crete. Click here to read more....
