Walking the Paths of Penwith
September 7th ~ 12th
Wednesday, September 7th. Walk St Michael's Way

After we say our good-byes to those are leaving this morning, we will take a taxi or local train across the most narrow section of Cornwall, up to Lelant. This is the beginning of St Michael's Way, or as I refer to it, the "Cornish Camino". This path has been used by Irish, Welsh and Scottish pilgrims who would rather walk the 12+ mile across Cornwall on their way to Santiago de Compostela, Spain, than risk the dangerous and treacherous waters around Land's End, the most western point of Cornwall. After walking across this peninsula, they would then re-board their boats in Penzance to be taken to the north coast of Spain, where they would walk the "Camino Ingles" to complete their pilgrimage into Santiago.
We can choose to walk the entire "Cornish Camino" or part of it, depending on how far we wish to walk this day.

Thursday, September 8th Carn Les Boels to Alsia Well

We will be taken to the rugged coast near Land's End to begin our walk at Carn Les Boels, the magnificent outcrop of rocks just south of the village of Polgigga. Paul Broadhurst and Hamish Miller, authors of The Sun and the Serpent, doused this spot to be where the powerful Dragon Way currents enters into England. We will walk a gentle 6 miles to Alsia Well, the only well in western Cornwall to not be discovered by the Christian Church. As a result, it is considered to be the only remaining "goddess" well as it is not named for a Christian saint.
This is a very special and sweet spot, lovingly cared for by Trevor Rogers, who owns the land and nearby old mill house.

Friday, September 9th Walk to Boscowen'un Stone Circle

We will walk to the ancient stone circle of Boscowen-un Stone Circle just north of St Buryan.
Bowcowen-un is one of my most favorite sacred sites in western Cornwall. Last June, it welcomed me in with an open heart, and I allowed myself to connect deeply with the site and also with my core.
Here, we will get to experience the full magic, mystery and wonder of an ancient stone circle, listening to the wisdom of the Earth, bring in our sacred sounds, and co-create a Goddess ceremony within the circular stones.
With our bodies and voices, we will dance and sound our way within the circular pattern of the stone circles, exploring their unique geometric characteristics. As we rest our bodies against the standing stones, we open to receive their wisdom and express our gratitude for their ageless presence amongst us.
Depending on how long we choose to stay and experience the potent energies of Boscowen'um, we will either continue on to the well at Sancreed, before we head south to the Blind Piper Standing Stone and the Nine Maidens Stone Circle, or we will head east to the magical grove and trees in Trevelloe Woods.
It will be a full day, and yet we will get to walk full circle, walking back to our home at Rosemerryn.

Saturday, September 10th and Sunday, September 11th "Mermaid to Merry Maids"

This walk is described and mapped in Journey to the Stones - Mermaid to Merrymaid by Ian McNeil Cooke.
Over these two days, we will walk a total of 26 miles from the Mermaid Chair at Zennor down to the Merry Maidens Stone Circle that is only a short distance from our B&B. On this walk, we will visit over 30 ancient sites, including four stone circles. We will traverse though many types of landscapes, including moors, woods, and fields.
This extraordinary two days will be the culmination of our days of walking, exploring and deeply experiencing the ancient, wild and luscious energies of Penwith.
